“In the Urban Desert” is a romance journeying to one’s inner child. In artistically well-organized descriptions that move back and forth between theatrical-prosaic scenes to poetic heart-wrenching sensitivity, the reader sails along with the protagonist in the blaring urban reality to find the natural and free “self” hidden at the core of one’s personality.

The voyage begins and ends with the child we once were, the one we most often abandon in the desert of our souls. Returning to childhood experiences is painful and grueling but is also healing and vital. Through the people the protagonist meets in his adult life, he learns that the best way to survive a life so challenging is to make those long-lost childhood dreams come true.

Yossi Ovadia is an author and actor. He’s studied acting and theater arts, and holds degrees in Bible studies, mathematics and life sciences. After years of working in the realm of science—in the biophysics labs in Bar-Ilan University and molecular genetics in the Weizmann Institute of Science—he decided to focus on the arts, his own childhood dream.

His writing is characterized by a psychological-philosophical view of human behavior, while playing along the lines of the classic and modern, and the portrayal of nature and society.
